Importing Models
3D Canvas provides the ability to import models from several popular 3D file formats.
To import a model:
- On the File menu, select Import.
- A sub-menu will provide you with a list of importable formats. Choose the format of the
file you want to import.

There are a number of options available to correct potential problems with
imported models.
Adjust Creasing
Imported models sometimes do not look as smooth as is desirable. To make
the model appear smoother, or more creased, select this option and adjust
the amount of creasing using the slider provided.
Scale Factor
If your imported model is too large or too small you can
adjust its size by increasing or decreasing the scale factor. For example,
entering an amount of .5 will result in your model being scaled to half its
imported size
Center
Select this option to center your model on the scene.
Generally this is desirable so this is enabled by default.
Default Textures
Sometimes textures are not available with a model. The
difficult mapping of the textures to the model may still be intact. If this
is the case, this option will apply a default texture that you can replace
later with a correct texture.
Swap YZ
Some modelling programs use Y as depth and Z as height. 3D
Canvas uses Y as height and Z as depth. Select this option if you find your
imported model positioned pointing up rather than away. This option may
result in your model becoming inside-out. If that happens select the
Invert option.
Flip X
Reverses the X direction of the model. This option may
result in your model becoming inside-out. If that happens select the
Invert option.
Flip Y
Reverses the Y direction of the model. Use this option if
you find your model upside-down when imported. This option may result in
your model becoming inside-out. If that happens select the Invert
option.
Flip Z
Reverses the Z direction of the model. This option may
result in your model becoming inside-out. If that happens select the
Invert option.
Invert
If you find your model is inside-out you can turn it
right-side-out by selecting this option. |
