Cross Section Modelling - Part 3

In part 3 of this tutorial we will add the required detail to the nose of our model.

bulletAs noted in the previous section of this tutorial, we do not have adequate detail to follow the nose properly.

bulletThe key to resolving this is to create new points and edges.

Select a point on one side, and the equivalent point on the other side.

bulletClick the Edge operation to create an edge between these points.

bulletRepeat for the other points along the bottom front.

bulletSelect the indicated edge and click the Divide operation to create a new point along the edge. Repeat for the other side.

bulletSelect these two points and create an edge between them.

bulletRepeat this process to add additional points and edges.

bulletShape these edges to the contour of the nose.

Notice that we do not have "cross sections" in this part of the model so you will not see the new points and edges from a side view. You can however still select them using the same methods used previously. The selected points will be highlighted in the side view.
bulletWe have a pretty good resemblance of the real object. But the edges along the nose are too sharp. The real object has a bevel along these edges.
bulletSelect these forward faces and extrude them using a very small amount (the extrude amount can be set by right-clicking on the extrude operation button). An extrude of .001 units should be adequate. A significantly larger amount will result in distortion of the forward faces. We do not need to extrude them much since will be selecting and moving them manually.
bulletSelect the newly created faces and shift them to the left.
bulletUsing the front view scale them to create a bevel.
bulletRepeat this process to create another bevel.
bulletThough this tutorial is complete, the model is not. This model is completed in the Point Reduction and Using Boolean Operations tutorials.
